My other main interest is the Martial Arts. Or more specifically,
Personal Protection. Surviving a mugging or - in the case of the ladies - surviving a rape attempt. I started the martial arts at the age of fourteen - sixty-four years ago - and hold the grade of 4th Dan Black Belt. Formerly as a Senior Coach I was Area Coach to the West of England. The majority of self-defence classes bear little relation to the realities of street survival. They teach techniques based on the main arts of karate, aikido, judo and the like. It is most
unlikely that the student would walk away in one piece if he tried to use them. Bear in mind that these and
similar methods only work in a real-life situation when one reaches at least 2nd Dan Black Belt. Three even four years of intensive practical training. I know, I've done it. With this in mind, I have developed my own effective system, aimed at the elderly non-pugnacious man or woman wanting to be able to walk the streets in (relative) safety.
